The Galeri Foto Jurnalistik Antara instigated a new attitude in Indonesia when it incorporates education as an integral part of the gallery’s activities. Through the systematic organization of monthly lectures, encounters, and regular workshops, the GFJA not only encourages free exchange of information or cultivates public debate but also generate a sense of history and the appreciation in the creation and critical discussions of the photographs.
The GFJA has organized over 200 educational programs in the last 10 years. Since 1994, the birth of budding young photographers from the GFJA’s annual photojournalism workshop has become a tradition in itself; most of alumnae are now working professionally at the country’s largest newspapers and magazines including international wire services where their work are picked-up by TIME, Newsweek, and other prestigious media. In fact, GFJA will increasingly turn to educational commitments in the coming years.
Currently there are several workshops that over the years have always been targeted by hobbyist and professionals who are willing to start getting to know photography as well as deepen their knowledge in photography especially in photography.
